While there’s already a wealth of productions to catch in Manila, theater fans may be hard-pressed to find opportunities to watch Broadway or West End productions, especially since not all of the major ones go on international tours.
But now, thanks to the CCP National Theatre Live program, it’ll be easier to see some of the award-winning shows from the UK, screened in local cinemas. The program was first launched in 2009 and is now returning to bring nine UK productions to the big screen.
This Sept. 26, the CCP National Theatre Live program will be showing “The Life of Pi,” adapted from the novel of the same name. “The Life of Pi” is a philosophical tale that follows Pi, a young boy stranded on a lifeboat in the Pacific Ocean with a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, and a Royal Bengal tiger.
The play garnered several awards, including Best New Play, Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Actor, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 2022 Olivier Awards, and Best Scenic Design, Best Sound Design, and Best Lighting Design at the 2023 Tony Awards.
“The Life of Pi” will be screened at Greenbelt 3 Cinema 1 on Sept. 26, 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost P250 for regular viewers, and P150 for students.
Other plays staged by the National Theatre will also be screened at the cinema in the coming months.
