‘Ugat, Ugnayan, Obusan’ at CCP Main Theater hails Ramon Obusan’s legacy

THE RAMON Obusan Folkloric Group, founded by the late National Artist for Dance Ramon Obusan, presents a program of dance classics until tomorrow at CCP.

To commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of its founder, the late National Artist for Dance Ramon Obusan, the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group presents a program of dance classics that highlights the enduring significance of his research and his legacy in “Ugat, Ugnayan, Obusan.”

Timeless traditions

Staged in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, “Ugat, Ugnayan, Obusan” brings together several generations of students and practitioners of the Obusan school, in dance suites that have served as foundations for learning about timeless Filipino traditions and have brought different communities together.

The tribute show opened at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) on Friday, and runs again Saturday and Sunday, both shows at 3 p.m.

Obusan passed away on Dec. 21, 2006, but his research, his students, his dancers, his family and his friends carry in them the legacy of the man.

Nothing succinctly encapsulates what ROFG’s mission is than what the late National Artist for Dance Ramon Arevalo Obusan said in a video interview back in 2006: “Si Ramon Obusan ay isang taong naniniwala na may responsibilidad para iabot sa susunod na henerasyon ang mga kabutihang nadanas natin ngayon, ang mga tradisyon na ipinasa sa atin ng ating mga ninuno, ibigay naman natin sa ating mga susunod na salinlahi na punung-puno ng pagmamalasakit at pag-unawa.”

Tickets at P250 are available at the CCP Box Office and in all TicketWorld outlets. Call 8323704, 8919999 or 8530794.
