Divorced, beheaded, live—in Manila: ‘Six the Musical’ opens this October

After the phenomenal reception of the historical rap musical “Hamilton” in Manila—and ahead of the upcoming Manila opening of Broadway hit “Miss Saigon”—GMG Productions announces that they are bringing another international hit to the local stage.

This October, modern pop concert-inspired production “Six The Musical” flies from the West End to Manila to bring “her-story” to Filipino audiences.

“Six,” written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, features the six ex-wives of King Henry VIII, reclaiming their own stories and telling their version of their lives (and deaths). It’s a “histo-remix,” as the lyrics go.

Presented through a pop concert format, the musical “brings these historical figures to life, portraying them as fierce and influential pop stars in their own right.” The musical first premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017, and has since gone on a UK tour, running at the West End, then North America, Broadway, Australia, Canada, and even in South Korea. Manila is its next stop this 2024.

“The energy and impact of this production are unparalleled, and we believe Manila audiences are in for a royal treat. This is not just a show but an experience that celebrates the strength and resilience of women in a way that is both entertaining and empowering,” says GMG Productions chief executive officer Carlos Candal.

The cast for the Manila run has yet to be announced, but “Six the Musical” is set to run from Oct. 1 to 20 at The Theatre at Solaire. Tickets to go on sale on Apr. 19.
