Belgian musicians featured in Manila Symphony Orchestra’s new concert

Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will stage “The Trumpet Calls,” on July 6, 8 p.m., at the Francisco Santiago Hall, BDO Corporate Center, Makati.

The concert is the second concert of MSO’s “Color Your World” 2013-2014 season.

The concert will feature Belgian guest artists Manu Mallearts on trumpet, and Thanos Adamopoulos as guest conductor.

Through the concert, MSO explores golden themes of majesty and triumph with a performance of Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 “Haffner,” Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto in E Flat Major, and Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 in C Major “Great Symphony.”

Featured trumpet soloist Manu Mallearts is based in Brussels, Belgium. He is the artistic director of the brass ensemble Belgian Brass and solo trumpet player of La Monnaie Opera House. Last year, Mallearts  gave a workshop for MSO brass members and also played as soloist for the Bamboo Organ Festival in Las Piñas.

Thanos Adamopoulos has served as concertmaster of the Monnaie Symphony Orchestra, Brussels. He has also served as guest coach for the distinguished Asian Youth Orchestra of which several MSO musicians have been members. He is the music director of the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra.
