Ways to guard against illness, get a better complexion

Here are your most frequently asked questions and I shall answer them as best as I can. In truth, there is only one way to steer your life toward the path of wellness. All one has to do is to simply want it and go for it.

Q: In this world beset with pollution and environmental problems, how can we guard ourselves against illness?

That is a serious question that health experts like the World Health Organization is seriously tackling. As ordinary citizens, we must simply take charge of our lives. Not tomorrow but today.

Choose chemical-free products, eat organic food, avoid places of pollution like smoke-filled bars/restaurants. Eat more vegetables and fruits (grow them yourself, if possible). But if you find organic food expensive, it may not be so, if you know of someone who grows his/her own produce.

Because wellness is a lifestyle, health has to become a good habit.

To understand the power of things natural, let’s take a look at the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki who were exposed to radiation.

To this day the Japanese who were exposed to radiation had slower cancer rates than expected by doctors. This happened because the Japanese take huge amounts of omega-3 (from flaxseed and fish oils) which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, one of the best ways to guard yourself against illness is by including garlic oil, turmeric (whose curcumin is considered natural medicine) and vitamin C in your diet.

Q: Why the current emerging awareness about omega-3 fatty acids?

Omega-3 has been around since the beginning of time.  Simply put, it is a unique component of fish and oils, EPA and DHA (eicosapentaenoic and decosahexaenoic acid).

These are the good things they have been found to do:

  • Retard atherosclerosis

  • Lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides

  • Maintain healthy skin, hair and nails

  • Boost the immune system

  • Protect against migraines

If you are a vegetarian, omega-3-rich sources are canola, flaxseed and soybean.

Eat your vegetables

Q: Why so much fuss about vegetables and fruits?

There are natural chemical substances found in plants called photochemical or phytonutrients. These give fruits, vegetables and legumes their color, flavor and disease-fighting properties. Considered potent antioxidants, they have a protective effect against various illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis and lung ailments. Eat your vegetables and fruits.  They are good for you.

Q: Can I achieve a slimmer body without exercising?

Yes you can. But chances are, your body strength may not be in peak condition. At the onset of adulthood, one comes to the realization that while it’s great to look good, it’s even better if you also feel good. And a body that is not trained or conditioned by exercise may not have optimum energy.

Don’t be afraid to exercise, it can only contribute to your well-being. Try moderate exercise like brisk walking. It’s a good start. In fact, there was the case of Lydia, a 45-year-old homemaker who chose to go on a crash diet. She lost weight and inches by going on a juice, water and vegetable diet. Her dramatic loss—seven pounds in one week; she never looked sexier. But within two weeks she was down with the flu.

Her lesson learned?  Never deprive yourself of the necessary nutrients or calories the body needs.

Q: How can I achieve a better complexion?

It works from the inside-out.  Increase: vegetables, fruits and vitamin C intake, load up on water, cut back on the sugar, protect yourself from sun exposure, sleep at least six to eight hours daily, exercise daily. See a dermatologist for your monthly facial.

Today’s affirmation: “I am unstoppable!”

Love and light!
