I rarely suffered from breakouts and acne during my teens, so it was quite alarming to suddenly start having them in my adult years.
For most of this year, I’ve had persistent zits around my chin area. My dermatologist and I couldn’t really figure out the culprit. I’ve already kept skincare products to the basic minimum to avoid further skin irritation, but those small annoying zits just kept reappearing somehow.
Fighting acne, I’ve discovered, is like waging a war. It’s something you can’t get rid of entirely, and things can get worse before they start getting better.
I was getting frustrated, so on one of my trips abroad, I was at a drugstore and came across this supplement in tablet form that claims to clear acne. I gave it a try—and so far, it seems to have worked.
Antioxidant
The supplement has high amounts of Lactoferrin, which is said to be a natural food supplement purified from human colostrum, the first milk produced after a baby is born, or from human or cow’s milk. It’s used as an antioxidant to protect against bacterial and viral infections.
Other uses include stimulating the immune system, preventing tissue damage related to aging, promoting healthy intestinal bacteria, and helping regulate the absorption of iron in the intestines. On the skin front, it helps control acne by reducing the bacteria associated with skin blemishes (that’s p. acnes bacteria, to be specific), as well as reducing skin inflammation.
I took this for a few months, and apart from a zit or two, my skin is back to how it was once before. The downside is, the supplement is not easily available in the Philippines. Only one brand, AcneCare, is sold in Mercury Drug stores. Otherwise, Lactoferrin can be bought off the Internet from sites like www.amazon.com.
It’s also highly recommended to take this supplement for a minimum of three months to achieve the best results, and of course, along with proper skincare to control breakouts.
