Keep your man well-groomed with these grooming essentials

DESPITE THE growing number of metrosexuals, most men are still resistant to a grooming routine. I know my husband would be perfectly content with a bar of Ivory soap and shampoo that doesn’t smell like flowers.

So when trying to introduce products to your man, the best and most effective way is to keep it simple.

Facial cleanser/scrub

Most men use whatever soap they can get hold of on their face. I suggest leaving a fragrance-free cleanser near the sink and in the shower. Don’t think he will make an effort to use it if it’s not right in front of him. That would be considered too much work. Look for a gentle, nondrying, nonirritating product that is easy to use. Also, make sure the packaging is simple and straight to the point. This will make him a little bit more open to giving the product a chance.

Moisturizer with SPF

Yes, men need protection from the sun, too! Although it looks like most men have better skin than women (I blame makeup for this!), they also get wrinkles and discoloration. Sometimes, men get turned off with using moisturizers with SPF simply because they are not well-versed about the product’s benefits. My husband, a golfer, hated using any sort of skin protection when, at one time, he asked his driver to get one for him and the driver bought a drugstore brand that was all sticky. Not to say that all drugstore SPF products are sticky, but do choose a moisturizing SPF for your husband’s face that gets absorbed well. I promise you he’d be asking you for more even before his stash is finished.

Fragrance

Most men are loyal to one scent and one scent alone. Although loyalty is a great trait to have, when it comes to fragrance, a little variation is also good to have. This coming Father’s Day, do your man a favor and introduce him to a new scent. Not only will he thank you if he ends up loving it, you will also enjoy the thought of how much influence you have in his life!

Power tools

Men should have the power to trim and shave when he feels he needs to (that includes nose hair). A disposable shaver is great, but there is nothing like finding your man a great electrical shaver. He will love that he won’t have to worry about nicks or old blades. And what woman finds nose hair sexy? So find that all-in-one great tool that would help bring out the clean him you love.

Hair products

From hair wax to gels, there is a plethora of products men can use to keep their hair in tip-top shape the whole day. All you have to do is introduce them to him. Or ask your hair stylist about the newest hair products available for men, and tell her what type of hairstyle your man keeps. She will know the best products for him. Best of all, salons normally carry these products, so you don’t have to go out of your way to get them.
