Make your own curtain ties–using belts

WIDE belt as curtain tie creates visual balance.

Curtain ties can be the most boring decorative detail. Aside from the usual rope-with-tassels look, there aren’t that very many varieties to choose from. If your home has a more streamlined, minimalist look, you have your work cut out for you. Let’s get real creative here to save your look. First, let’s check out your closet.

If your collection of belts is too precious to purge, and you also might need a pair anyway, head to a department store that carries a wide selection of belts that you can get in pairs or multiples. We suggest wide belts for visual balance.

You’ll need:

Belt

Tape measure

Grommet for the new belt hole (optional)

Curtain hook

Cutter or big scissors to cut through belt

Leather puncher for holes (or you can just head to the nearest shoe-repair shop)

Wall hook to secure belt curtain holder

Here’s how:

Measure the length of your belt around your curtain to a comfortable hold. Not too tightly gathered, and not too loose either.

Cut belt to desired length, giving enough allowance for it to hook up on the wall hook on one end.

On the cut end, punch a hole about an inch from each end.

Hook curtain hook through the new holes to hold together.

Install wall hook.

Belt in your curtain.
