Music for your eyes

Jerico “Coy” Placido (@coy_placido), 35, musician/graphic artist

Instagram user since: Nov. 7, 2010

Why he took the plunge: “I knew it was a nifty app before it became popular. You get to share your life in beautiful, film-like filters. I won’t be surprised if it would be in flashy cinematics sometime soon.”

Gadget of choice: “I use a variety of film cameras, but mostly I download camera apps that enhance Instagram’s built-in features. Apps today are so user-friendly, it gives basic exercises in photo editing similar to those you’ll find in professional graphics editing programs like Photoshop.”

What you’ll see on his feed: “I’d like to say food, but in there you’ll find photo manipulations, travels, artworks, band posters and various charm recipes.”

Favorite Instagram subjects:  “Trees, beaches, missed sunsets and geometry.”

Favorite filter: “Tight contest between Amaro and Rise. The yellowish tinge instantly makes it nostalgic and summery for that extra dose of warm morning bread.”

Favorite Instagram-related apps: “PicFrame, XnView Fx, Camera+, Blender, Aviary, Reflex, Fuzel… The list is endless, but to make the images work, you’ll need tons of patience and a little imagination.”

Instagram video—yes or no? “I wish they’d segregate the feed though. It’s OK, but it’s harder to be an instant director and tell a compelling story in 15 seconds.”

His Instagram pet peeves:

“1. Food. But I can’t blame them ’cause I also love food. But I feel it’s taken the place of prayer before meals.

2. Loved up couples and an entire feed of selfies. Unless you have an angel’s face like my wife’s. (She’s behind me.)

3. Duckfaced selfies. Unless you are a duck.

3. Long, ridiculous hashtags.

4. Notes.

5. #NoFilter hashtag. Proud of your built-in cam’s capacities?”

His five favorite Instagram users:

“Tuesday_v: Because she chronicles our plain-vanilla lives.

Petrichor218_gi: Everyday eye candies.

phantastic420: Because we’re turning Japanese.

Nikkohurtado: My blood type is ink.

Banksyart: Puts the ART in HeART.”

Fans may see Coy’s works of art beyond Instagram; on Sept. 7, his homecoming Circle of Fifths Digital Art Exhibit will open at Cafe By The Ruins, Baguio City. The event will feature bands Top Junk and Reklamo, and an acoustic performance by Mr. Tek Templo.
