I received an e-mail from Paul Harrison (not his real name), with a very interesting question concerning a vision he had 30 years ago.
“Greetings. I am an Englishman who resides here in the Philippines with my Filipina wife. We live south of Manila. We have read your book ‘Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Ghosts (But Were Afraid to Ask).’ As a direct result of reading your book, we also now have in our library the following books (yet to be read): ‘From the Profound to the Profane,’ ‘Understanding the Psychic Powers of Man’ and ‘True Encounters with the Unknown.’”
“As a Western-educated and mentally disciplined man, I always found there was something missing in my psyche, so I personally began an exploration of the alternative ways of thinking and ‘seeing.’ Hence I found myself in the libraries of the Theosophical Society.
“This process was kick-started back in 1978, when I was a student at an agricultural university in England. I had then what I believe was a spiritual visitation whilst I slept one night in late 1978—I cannot give an exact date as I did not record the date there and then.
“The visitation was in the form of an Asian woman who sat on the end of my bed, and the apparition appeared as a shimmering green light. I could not clearly see the face of the woman, but she was definitely Asian and had straight hair that reached to her shoulders.
“I felt no fear, and I even closed my eyes to ensure I was not dreaming and reopened them again and the apparition had moved slightly closer up the bed to be sitting at about my waist level on the side of the bed.
“Again I felt no threat, so I mentally spoke to the apparition and said, ‘Well, I don’t know why you are here and appreciate your visit, but I must get back to sleep, so good night, young lady’—or words to that effect.
“I have never been visited again, to my conscious knowledge anyway, by a spirit. However, and this is where it becomes interesting, I believe I have been in the Philippines, on and off, since 2005. I met my present wife in 2010, and we hit it off very well. After some time together, we married, and we have since been very happy. There is a strong bond between us that is unique. I am not that young and I am way too cynical to be duped into thinking a ‘unique bond’ is present when it is not. My wife’s birthday is October 1978.
“Is it possible that her spirit visited me in England upon her birth in 1978? And then it took us about 30 years to find each other again? I would be very interested in your opinion.
“Also, I would like you to give me advice on which one of your seminars would be most beneficial to educate my wife and me further in this area—‘The Beginners Path,’ so to speak. I have viewed your website and have some ideas, but I feel your advice is needed so we start at the correct place.
Spiritual nature
“There is no doubt in my mind that the spiritual nature of man (as you refer to in ‘Everything About Ghosts’), particularly western man, has been lost, and that connection severed for most. The lure of computers, money, power and instant fame has drawn the mind of many men and women away from the spirit world and dumped them (ungraciously, in my opinion) in the vat of self-aggrandizement and self satisfaction. I will not go there.
“So, I look forward to your reply and the advice contained therein. I also look forward to attending one of your seminars.”
Dear Paul,
Thank you for your interest in my works and for sharing with me your very interesting psychic experience.
What I believe happened was that you had a spontaneous precognitive vision of a future event, and not because the spirit of your future wife visited you in 1978, since she was born only at about that time. This is one reason why déjà vu happens.
Now, why did it take the two of you 30 years to find each other? You see, time exists only on the physical plane, but not in the spirit world. So 30 years is just a split second on the spiritual plane.
Your story reminds me of the case of a young Russian woman named Olga who lived in a small town in Russia. She was 18 at the time she dreamt one evening that she met an American man with the initials A and W who would become her husband. She dismissed the dream as mere fantasy because she knew no foreigner.
About two years after she had this dream, her family suddenly decided to migrate to the United States. Later, at a party in America, she met an American with the name of Ambrose Worrall, whom she later married. Both Ambrose and Olga became very famous healers.
