The opening activity last February for the centenary of the College of the Holy Spirit Manila (CHSM), “Spirit Ablaze,” was a retrospective of the 100-year history of the (Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) congregation.
It showed how it grew from a tiny provincial school in northern Luzon and branched out into many regional private schools, with the one in Mendiola, Manila, as one of its “showcases.”
After this glimpse into the past, next year’s closing celebration will be “One Brighter World” for the next 100 years. The college and high school Golden Jubilarians for 2014 will capitalize on the trail blazed by the sisters and highlight CHSM’s contributions to society and the world.
The CHSM administration led by its president, Dr. Felina Co-Young, has short-, medium- and long-range plans for the school: Expand the curriculum to offer courses in line with the ever-changing digital world; implement new systems of teaching; upgrade equipment, physical facilities and structures; and conduct continuing education programs for both students and faculty, among others.
CHSM alumni’s achievements speak for themselves, as shown by the impact they are making in their respective fields of endeavor worldwide—foreign service, medicine, business, banking, fine arts, hotel and restaurant management, education, science, and the media. These achievers share their expertise through seminars and other educational forums that benefit students and faculty alike.
