“PASSING of Time,” by Mark Andy Garcia
“Pool,” by Buboy Cañafrancia

On view till September 16 at West Gallery are a group exhibit by Mark Andy Garcia, Eugene Jarque, Neil Arvin Javier, Lynyrd Paras, Lirio Salvador and Mac Valdezco, and solo exhibits by Charles Buenconsejo, Buboy Cañafranca and Ryan Rubio.

At Gallery 1, Garcia, Jarque, Javier, Paras, Salvador  and Valdezco join forces in the group show, “Bound,” with each artist depicting themes that matter to them most.

Garcia’s “Passing of Time”  suggests that as our surroundings evolve, so does the artist. Jarque finds inspiration from architecture, landscapes, everyday objects, and technology to assemble his latest pieces into geometric and intuitive forms.

Javier gathered used promotional posters from convenience stores, and made them into a large collage, with one involving a religious icon disguised as a famous personality.

Paras’ mixed-media work, “Letters, Objects, and Light,” hints at a portrait, superimposing and highlighting texts and objects to effectively hide emotions and thoughts.

Salvador fuses decorative art and functional art, using gears, mixing bowls, utensils  and door handles as raw materials for string instruments that produce sophisticated sounds.

Valdezco proves that with “Black,” which was completed using only plastic tubing, no material stays ordinary.

At Gallery 2, Buenconsejo’s “Destination Unknown” presents the universe in contemplation. Drawing inspiration from a building under construction just outside his apartment, Buenconsejo chooses welding sparks as a metaphor for the origin of the universe, as the energy that gave birth to stars, galaxies, and planets that make up the universe that we know and inhabit today, as well as the energy that continues to permeate the world. He experiments with his camera to capture in several exposures the movement of the sparks, letting them fall where they will, traveling down to their final destination and making burn marks on paper.

At Gallery 3, Cañafranca’s “Delaying Tactics” consists of subdued paintings marked by bright red, flesh  and blue hues.

At Gallery 4, Rubio’s “Bountiful Blessings” consists of paintings showing haunting, ghostly figures emerging from the mist of nearly monochromatic drips of paint.
