The Varsitarian, the 85-year-old official student publication of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), will be holding the 29th Gawad Ustetika, which recognizes the works of aspiring Thomasian writers and honors their creative writing skills.
Ustetika is the longest-running campus literary contest in the country. Its past winners include Lourd de Veyra, Jun Lana, Neil Garcia, Wendell Capili, Joseph Saguid, Allan Pastrana and Angelo Suarez.
The awards night is on Dec. 14, 6 p.m., at the UST Plaza Mayor.
Highlights are the Rector’s Literary Award, which will go to any of the first-prize winners that best reflects the Catholic vision, and the Parangal Hagbong to be given posthumously to internationally known writer and editor Norma Miraflor, a UST alumna.
Genres covered in the Ustetika contest are: Poetry/Tula, Fiction/Katha, Essay/Sanaysay, One Act Play/Dulang May Isang Yugto and Maikling Kuwentong Pambata.
UST undergradute and graduate students may submit their entries starting Nov. 4. Deadline is Nov. 15.
