The recent decision to allow Philippine Airlines to fly directly to Europe has resulted in a 53-percent increase in flight searches to the continent.
“A lot of people dread the thought of being stuck in a plane for more than a few hours, preferring a quick and pain-free flight where they can relax and breathe,” said Janet Ranola, Philippines marketing manager of leading travel search site, Skyscanner. “My job has me constantly traveling, and I’ve discovered a few tips along the way which have helped make the journey more pleasant.”
Here is a list of the most common concerns people encounter while traveling and ways to combat them to confidently conquer the flight.
1. Boredom
Turn the 15-hour flight into an escape. Airlines now offer a wide array of in-flight entertainment that will help pass the time such as on-board games, movies and TV shows. Prior to the trip, remember to fill-up your computer with new movies, music and games. If you want to take a break from the TV screen, try finishing a book.
2. Dehydration
Humidity on the plane is low which is why it’s especially important to keep yourself hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the flight and avoid soda, coffee and alcoholic beverages.
3. Babies on board
A crying baby, especially on a 15-hour flight and in a tiny cabin, can make the flight longer than it actually is. Unfortunately, you can’t choose who you fly with. Ear plugs or noise-cancelling earphones can be lifesavers.
4. Jet lag
Minimizing sleep disruptions can help you arrive at your destination feeling more rested and refreshed and avoid jetlag. Get comfortable and ask your flight attendant for a blanket to cozy up on. A neck pillow will do wonders for your neck while snoozing during a long-haul flight.
5. Carry-on luggage
If you must carry-on your bag, make sure to board the plane first to ensure enough space in the overhead cabin.
