MRT commuters get free juice drinks, train rides

MANILA, Philippines—Everyday ride for train commuters was made colorful by Tang Philippines as its “Ang Kulay ng Pasko” campaign kicked off with a “Karoling Flashmob” this Wednesday morning.

Easing the stress of long commutes, Tang’s Karoling Flashmob surprised the passengers of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) with Christmas melodies as they enjoyed different flavors of Tang juice in cups and free train rides.

To reignite the “Karoling” tradition every Christmas, Tang brought FrisChorale to serenade commuters riding the MRT through its Cubao station in Quezon City, where a large volume of MRT passengers come from being the most populous city in the country.

“Through this project, Tang’s karolers (chorale singers) plan to brighten up the days of the often-weary commuters with the gift song as Christmas draws ever closer,” Tang said in its release.

Disguised as train passengers lining up to buy tickets, FrisChorale which was composed of ages 10 to 16 members, sang to the tune of “Joy to the World” one by one from separate locations.

As they came together into one group, FrisChorale took off their “disguise clothes,” displaying their bright green “Ang Kulay ng Pasko” Tang shirts.

“We screened some of the best kid chorales in the metro and then we felt so much the passion and interest of FrisChorale for this (project). They inspired us,” Lawrence Lorico, brand manager for Tang, said.

The Karoling Flashmob will be going to different MRT stations starting from North Avenue station in Quezon City to Taft Avenue station in Pasay City to sing Christmas selections “to spread the color to as many people as possible.”

Lorico said Wednesday’s campaign launch was “just a teaser.”

“There will be more surprises within the MRT from November until before the Christmas day falls. Who knows there will be surprises even inside the train?” he said.
