Tweetie de Leon designs ‘dressier’ clutches | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

DE LEON-GONZALEZ’S new collection of clutches—named after her daughter—is a single envelope style, but of strikingly bold colors, in stamped, textured or patent calf leather.

No one understands better the value of having multifunctional fashion pieces than a busy working woman. Take multihyphenate Tweetie de Leon-Gonzalez, who just rolled out her new collection of day-to-evening clutches.

The model/product endorser/accessories designer/entrepreneur describes her new bags as “a little dressier” than her previous collection, and can take a woman from workday to evening cocktails.

Bold colors

The new style incorporates her trademark stones. De Leon-Gonzalez’s clutches are an extension of her jewelry line at TdLG, her boutique at Alabang Town Center.

The new collection is a single envelope style, but of strikingly bold colors, in stamped, textured or patent calf leather.

But it’s not just career women who have been snapping up TdLG clutches. Its designer says her customers range “from teenagers to my titas.” It seems young fashionistas are attracted to the vibrant colors.

DE LEON-GONZALEZ’S new collection of clutches—named after her daughter—is a single envelope style, but of strikingly bold colors, in stamped, textured or patent calf leather.

“The styles are not formal but dressy, so they like it when they go clubbing.” Even her own teen daughter, she admits, “borrows a lot.”

When she opened her jewelry boutique a year ago, De Leon-Gonzalez decided to expand her product line to include complementary products such as money clips, wallets, credit card holders and minaudieres, though she maintains that jewelry is still the heart of her trade.

Exclusive collection

The ageless stunner had been designing jewelry and accessories and consigning them to different outlets, such as Rustan’s and Myth, for 10 years before she opened her own store.

A few months ago, De Leon-Gonzalez collaborated with online retailer Ava.ph for an exclusive collection of totes and reversible leather clutches, and an apparel line. (Shopping tip: The collection is now on sale.)

SEÑORITA pouches

There is, however, no sophomore apparel collection from De Leon-Gonzalez for now. Her business is evolving, but instead of clothing, she will add lifestyle and home pieces like throw pillows at TdLG for the holidays.

“I source the leather for the bags myself,” she says. “I find scrap materials so they don’t end up too expensive, and just give them unusual finishes. I want my pieces to be versatile and modern.”

Spoken like a sensible stylista.
