Salcedo Auctions, in association with Citigold, is holding its first ever one-day auction marathon to cap its sale calendar for the year.
A Day at the Auctions will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, with a selection of items ranging from furniture, décor, silver, books, maps and collectibles, to signed jewelry and fine artworks by established and emerging names on the local and international art scenes.
The bidding starts with Connoiseur Collection at 11 a.m., featuring artworks by Philippine masters and international artists, including a lacquer-on-wood by Nguyen Thanh Chuong and a limited-edition tapestry of the iconic “The Persistence of Memory,” by Salvador Dali.
There will also be a treasure trove of maps; sterling silver; pedigreed collectibles and objets d’art by Baccarat, Steuben and Meissen; and fine jewelry by some of the world’s leading houses, including Cartier, Chopard and Tiffany & Co.
Other highlights include a rare large Hispano-Philippine ivory crucifix, circa late 18th to early 19th century, as well as a selection of wooden and ivory santo, including a fine gilded San Vicente Ferrer from the 19th century in its original virina.
Best of contemporary art
At 2 p.m., the best of contemporary Philippine art goes under the hammer in Art Today. Expect raised paddles (and pulse rates) as coveted works by Geraldine Javier, Elmer Borlongan, Mark Justiniani, Jigger Cruz and Ronald Ventura are offered side by side with pieces by such names as Danilo Dalena and Onib Olmedo.
Three pieces of particular note are Marina Cruz’s “Bedroom”; Rodel Tapaya’s acrylic-on-burlap “Ang Huwad na Bernardo Carpio Pagkalipas ng Apat na Siglo”; and Annie Cabigting’s trompe l’oeil homage to the installation artist Christo.
New world records
The finale will be The Estate Sale at 5 p.m., consisting of furniture by the likes of B&B Italia and Kenneth Cobonpue; an award-winning Bang & Olufsen turntable; fine art, multiples, books and accessories from distinguished homes—an opportunity for buyers new to the auction scene to experience first-hand the fun and excitement of bidding and snagging that prized find at an exceptional price.
Early holiday drinks and light gourmet refreshments will be served.
Salcedo Auctions ends the year on a massive high, having set new world auction records for Filipino artists, and being recognized by the New York-based industry bible Art+Auction magazine in Blouin Artinfo as one of the top auction houses in Asia, the only one from the Philippines.
Preview for the three auctions at Three Salcedo Place is ongoing and runs through Friday, Nov. 15, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (till 4 p.m. on Saturday).
