Great day-to-evening bags

MARC Jacobs’ Polly bag has beautiful jeweled details like the bijoux chain strap and sophisticated square lock.

The 1984 bag is named after the year Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy first met and began their shared journey to build the world of Marc Jacobs.

The year is so significant to Duffy that he had it tattooed on his wrist. Jacobs was barely 21 in 1984 and still in his formative years, just out of Parsons School of Design, but already ultra-creative and burning with desire to carve his own niche in fashion.

Inspired by the idea of a super-feminine attitude that was not overdone, he then designed The Metropolitan bag, named after the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Its classic structures and clean lines contrast   with the materials used—nappa and suede.

The use of suede instead of the usual boxy calf allowed the usually structured handbag to look rich but not heavy.

Small jewelry-inspired details such as the hallmark and the diamond shape of the handle reinforcement completed the handbags. The idea of creating an intimate space was achieved by adding hidden details that only the user was allowed to see.

Derived from the same inspiration as the iconic 1984, the Polly, meanwhile, is a classic flap bag with beautiful jeweled details like the bijoux chain strap and sophisticated square lock. Functional for everyday use but also dressy enough, the Polly is an elevated version of shapes like the Baroque XL Single.

The Polly is a great day-to- evening bag because of its functional yet classic appeal. The convertible strap on the Polly can be worn four different ways: long on the shoulder, cross-body, double with leather tabs at the top or pulled and snapped to the side. It also features a zip pocket on the outside of the bag on the back.

Marc Jacobs is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists Inc. and is at Greenbelt 4, Ayala Center, Makati City.
