As today’s most promising stars walked down the red carpet of the 9th Star Magic Ball, our eyes focused on the women and their chosen outfits last night. From delicate fabrics to unlikely cuts, the actresses and other personalities in attendance showed off that formal wear doesn’t have to be so staid. It’s all about showing off your unique interpretation that’s in line with your persona.
Here’s a ranking of our 10 favorite outfits from the women who truly shone at the ball.
#10 Liza Soberano
Media favorite and undeniable teen sensation Liza didn’t show any signs that she’s in a hurry to grow up, an insecurity most young celebrities usually fall victim to. In a peach-pink, beaded ball gown with a full skirt by Michael Cinco, Liza might have reminded us of our prom days, but it made her more endearing to us all.
#9 Julia Barretto
Pink, feminine and delicate. These are the words to describe Mark Bumgarner‘s creation for the rising star that is Julia Barretto. It’s so refreshing to see that someone her age already knows that it pays not to go over-the-top to call others’ attention.
#8 Kim Chiu
Kim Chiu knows that she’s no longer the newest darling in town. She acknowledges it as she starts to reveal how she will mature into the next phase of her career. And by the way she sported a beaded backless gown by Pepsi Herrera, which had quite a high slit, we can tell it’s all going to be good.
#7 Kathryn Bernardo
The laser-cuts that were all over Kathryn’s white, long-sleeved Michael Cinco number was a delight to the eyes and revealed a side of the teen queen that we’re happy to see.
#6 Denise Laurel
Denise’s combination of a body-hugging white cropped top and a skirt with a long train and slit in the front from Vania Romoff was an unlikely choice for such an occasion but she pulled it off well. Paired with red lips and her hair gathered up on one side, it looks like this look is going to be the new classic.
#5 Pia Wurtzbach
The beauty queen put her hair in a bun, put on some statement earrings, and got to work. Her off-shoulder champagne gown by Bessie Besana and matching clutch told us that here’s a woman who refuses to follow trends and honors old-school glamour instead without looking dated.
#4 Kelsey Merritt
It’s quite a blessing that the international model is here in the homeland for a little while to school everyone on how to slay in the classics. Showing up in a sleeveless black Vania Romoff dress, Kelsey proved to everyone that you don’t need to be flashy to be able to stand out.
#3 Kim Jones-Rosales
Fashion blogger and host girl Kim may have looked a little understated in a white dress by Jun Escario. But how she revealed just the right amount of skin made it far from being boring. Topping the dress with a black choker and with her hair slicked back, she managed to inject a vixen vibe to the outfit.
#2 Bea Alonzo
Bea was chic and elegant in a white dress that had a black bow on top from Alexander McQueen. With the minimal drama but with the maximum effect, the dress choice showed off that the actress wasn’t insecure of all the newcomers, and that she’s still got the game on on lock.
#1 Ellen Adarna
Daring and always pushing the envelope, Ellen Adarna redefined what it means to be sexy. It was all about the details: a deep neckline that showed off a long CuraV necklace, killer heels, dark lips, hair tied back, and a edgy snake clutch. These elements perfectly complemented the androgynous vibe of her her silk striped suit from designer Joey Samson.
