From Anne Curtis to Vicki Belo–celebs raid their closets

Local and foreign celebrities cash in on their fame to raise funds for the survivors of Supertyphoon “Yolanda.”

Here’s how to help them further their cause.

Foreign stars who visit the Philippines usually leave with the impression of how kind, accommodating and warm we are. They usually leave with fond memories.

Now, as the world remains in shock at the horrific devastation of the Visayas, the outpouring of grief and support from our idols is overwhelming, especially on social media.

Foreign actors and artists, from Channing Tatum, Hugh Jackman, Rihanna to Kevin Bacon, have taken to Twitter, influencing their millions of followers to donate money for aid, while others have set up events to encourage fans to give.

Jessica Sanchez held an online concert to raise funds for the Philippine Red Cross, while foreign act Simple Plan earmarked $10,000 from a recent gig to give to Philippine Red Cross as well.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell teamed up with half-Filipino photographer John-Paul Pietrus to sell limited-edition signed portraits of the model, with proceeds given to the Red Cross disaster fund.

RAYMUND Marasigan and his “Yolandagram” box

Local celebrities have been working nonstop, raiding their closets and rallying fans  to raise funds. Sharon Cuneta, KC Concepcion, Kris Aquino have donated cash, while others have decided to auction off gowns, outfits, jewelry and bags to further the cause.

Angel Locsin auctioned off a vintage 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle.

‘Yolandagram’

A selfless selfie seems to be an oxymoron, but not anymore, thanks to Raymund Marasigan of Sandwich/Gaijin/Pedicab/Eraserheads.

He will gamely pose for a photo with you, if you donate cash and drop it into the shoebox he carries around for that purpose. “Everybody is giving donations—from fans, rock stars, DJs to rappers. God bless your kind hearts,” says Rayms.

Closet philanthropists

Celebs like Julia Barretto, Anne Curtis, Vicki Belo, Jennylyn Mercado, Derek Ramsay, Grace Lee, Regine and Ogie Alcasid have also taken out clothes and accessories from their closets to hold various garage sales to raise more funds. Julia, her family and friends will hold a garage sale on Nov. 17 from 3-6 p.m. at Capitol Greenstreet function room, Capitol Golf Club, Old Balara, Quezon City. An entrance fee of five bottles of mineral water will be collected for donations as well.

BRING home a piece of Derek for charity.

Vicki will sell some designer items together with collected items from the likes of Jennylyn and Derek for a sale to be held at the Greenbelt Residences Belo Clinic today from 3-7 p.m. Regine, meanwhile, will hold a closed auction of select designer pieces. Visit the Regine Velasquez Friends Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RVFriendsOfficial) for more info.
