Caritas Manila holds ‘buy and give’ expo

Caritas Manila, the lead social-service agency of the Catholic Church, will hold its “Buy and Give Expo” Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at the Activity Center of Ayala TriNoma, Quezon City.

 

The event is part of Caritas Manila’s 60th anniversary celebration, and is under its social entrepreneurship programs Margins and Segunda Mana.

 

Caritas Margins is a registered label that encompasses products made by the marginalized sectors of society.

 

Products available for sale at the expo include paintings and artworks by inmates at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City; ladies’ bags made by women from Mandaluyong City as trained by internationally renowned designer Cora Jacob; bags upcycled from tetra packs, tarpaulin, magazines, jute and denim by urban poor residents of Tondo and Muntinlupa; home-care and personal hygiene products (dishwashing liquid, fabric conditioner, herbal soap, toilet bowl cleaner) made by various urban poor partners, and handicraft products (knotted cord rosary and resin images) made by inmates at the New Bilibid Prison; slippers, sandals, table runners and handwoven bags made by urban poor partners; bags and pouches made of beads handcrafted by inmates at the Correctional Institute for Women.

 

Also available are food items like chemical-free pancit canton, gourmet tuyo, atchara, jams and peanut butter, and oatmeal cookies.

 

Segunda Mana is Caritas Manila’s Gift-in-Kind program that espouses “reuse, reduce and recycle” by encouraging people to donate used or unused personal items and slow or nonmoving inventory items. These items will also be available for sale.

 

Proceeds from the expo will go to the victims of supertyphoon “Yolanda.”
