Jerry A. Dadap’s musical “Andres Bonifacio: Ang Dakilang Anak-Pawis” will be presented on Nov. 23 at St. Cecilia’s Hall in St. Scholastica’s College, Manila, and Nov. 30, Bonifacio Day, at the GSIS Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City.
Shows start 6:30pm.
The libretto is by Dionisio R. Salazar, a Palanca Award-winning playwright, and leading poet Rogelio G. Mangahas.
The musical play was first presented at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1979, and “the critics immediately acclaimed it as a major work,” recalled critic and arts writer Amadís Ma. Guerrero. “The late, great baritone Elmo Makil played Bonifacio, with mezzo Jay Valencia-Glorioso as his wife Gregoria de Jesus. Actor Tommy Abuel was the Narrator, with Tony Espejo directing a cast of 200.”
Music for the Nov. 23 concert will be provided by the Manila Symphony Orchestra under Arturo Molina.
