Auction to include Onglepho landscape, lotus paintings

“DREAMSCAPE”

On Decemeber 7,  James Onglepho will have two oil paintings, one landscape and one lotus, join the auction of León Gallery, Makati City.

 

Onglepho finished Fine Arts in Painting at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Santo Tomas. His mentors included National Artist Victorio C. Edades, Galo Ocampo, Antonio Llamas, and Francisco Monti.

 

At the same time, he studied landscape and still-life painting with the well-known conservative painter Gabriel Custodio.

 

“Lotus”

In 1955, his  “Vista por la Noche” won the Special Prize for the 5th Shell National Student Art Competition. The artwork of  Onglepho became part of the collections of Shell Co.

 

In April 1983, his lotus  painting became part of the collection of the National Museum of the Philippines.

 

Onglepho is an outstanding artist of the Philippines influenced by Chinese culture. His artworks, both in composition and in color, show a high quality and unique style. Thus from his first exhibit in 1959 until his recent 32nd one-man exhibit, his paintings have ben acquired by collectors
