No matter the sad times, bright Christmas balls and hanging ornaments are still popping up everywhere. If you prefer the more subtle touches for the season, here’s an idea. It even has a “green” angle to it.
We chose a palm leaf with sturdy stem and leaves that spread out elegantly and can survive in water for some time, or wilt with minimal loss of form.
What you’ll need:
(Fresh or dried) leaves, stems or fronds of your preferred plant. Choose one that will hold its form.
Spray paint-in-can in gold or silver. Be sure it is compatible with natural materials such as wood.
Old newspapers or plastic sheet to line the floor or table you will be spraying your stems on.
If you’re using fresh leaves, wipe them dry thoroughly.
Lay them on the old newspapers/plastic sheet.
Shake your spray paint as per instructions.
Hold the can at least six inches away and spray liberally on the leaves, turning them as needed.
Let air dry.
Tip: For added dimension, you may want to spray on a base color such as red or rust before the gold or silver.
Another added touch is glitter, which you can dust on while your coat of paint is drying.
