Graphic separates, tropical prints coming soon

Penshoppe went back to the street when it presented its Spring-Summer 2014 looks inspired by the global street summer trends.

The show started with party-ready, easy-breezy, geometrical, striped dresses and separates. A tank dress with diagonal black stripes paired with a wraparound knit cardigan gave us hints of grunge. The men’s tank with black and pink stripes paired with dark brown shorts is a mark that the brand is keeping it fresh and vibrant. The boxy short-sleeved men’s shirt complemented with gray straight-cut pants, and the midriff-baring long-sleeved top and mini skirt spelled summer—especially with the right prints.

The brand also introduced a lot of pink-hued shirts for their menswear collection. Penshoppe is making a statement that pink is not just for girls. A blazer-suit ensemble consisting of a white shirt, salmon chinos and sandals was a good and crisp look.

The next segment was made up of cheeky Hawaiian “coconut” prints. Fortunately, Penshoppe made them look so effortlessly cool and classy. The local

brand made the prints come across as chic, classic and forward.

The blue kimono cover-up was one of the more stunning and versatile pieces for women. For summer, guys can pick up the boxy blue sweater with an hourglass print because of its quirky look that is not overpowering for a normal Pinoy. The brand also included bits of inspiration from the tennis courts with the white tennis dress that is a sweet standout look.

If brand director Jeff Bascon’s objective is to bring the brand closer to Pinoys by being global, he has achieved it with this collection. Still, it can intimidate the “masa” that is used to the shirt-and-jeans combo.

Over all, Penshoppe had shown us a good collection. The brand has almost everything for any summer escapade. The styling is spot on and each look played to the audience’s clamor for summer festivities, concerts and the surfer lifestyle.
