I’m reading “Youngblood 4.” Edited by Ruel S. de Vera, it is the compilation of contributions to the popular column of the same name in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. I read it mainly because it is easy reading, something I can absorb, considering my erratic dubbing and recording schedule and my erratic breaks. Most of the articles in the anthology are very relatable. They are real and well-written.

The last book I read was “Satanic Mills or Silicon Islands? The Politics of High-Tech Production in the Philippines,” by Steven C. McKay. It is an interesting look into the labor practices of export-processing zones and high-tech factories. I was intrigued by the title, that’s why I read it. Also, I am an economics graduate and I’m also interested in politics.

I am reading “Why We Broke Up,” a novel by Daniel Handler. It follows the rants of a young girl about her recent breakup with her jock boyfriend. She tries to cope with the heartbreak by listing reasons for their breakup, and in the process recounts how they got together and why they split. The author partnered with an illustrator (Maira Kalman) so the book looks much like “The Little Prince.” The drawings include the keepsakes that the speaker describes throughout the book.
