You Won’t Believe How Many People Bought the New iPhone 6S

Right when you’re in the middle of enjoying your latest iPhone comes an even newer, just-launched version of it. Bummer! The recently released iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus topped the first weekend sales record for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus by 3 million. A whopping 13 million pieces were sold worldwide in just three days.

The said iPhones were released last Friday, Sept. 25 and made available for walk-in customers only. The rise in sales was most likely attributed tothe geography of the markets where the devices were sold. In its first weekend, economic giants Japan, Hong Kong, the US, and China got first dibs, helping boost the sales relatively higher. Last year, China wasn’t part of the initial countries for release.

The first weekend sales are important as they are good indicators of overall iPhone demand and are good estimates on how the holiday season sales will go.

The new iPhone features the revolutionary Multi-Touch interface with 3D Touch and Live Photos, which gives new life to still images. It’s no wonder why thousands of people camped outside Apple stores worldwide for it.

On its second wave of release this Oct. 9, 40 more countries including Mexico, Spain, and Taiwan will get to buy the new models. India, Malaysia, and Turkey are up next on Oct. 16 and about 130 other countries by the end of the year, hopefully including the Philippines.

Apple has been expected to sell an estimate of 78.4 million iPhones towards the end of the year. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook says in a press release, “We can’t wait to bring iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to [more] customers. The feedback is incredible.”
