Aquino love life again the topic in chat with reporters

NEW YORK City—For President Benigno Aquino III, the engagement of his former girlfriend, TV host and Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad and Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo reminded him of a line in his favorite song, “Got to Believe In Magic.”

“It has a line that asks a question: ‘Tell me how two people find each other,’ and in this case they found each other. One hopes the state they are in persist throughout their lives,” Mr. Aquino said while having coffee with reporters at his hotel here.

He wished the couple well and said he meant it “in all sincerity.”

“I still ask myself, how do people find each other? They found (each other) and one can’t help but really wish them well that their union become strong and they achieve their fullest potential,” the 51-year-old bachelor President said.

When asked if he would go to their wedding if invited, Mr. Aquino said that if he answered that question, it would seem as if he were asking them to invite him.

“It’s a question that doesn’t really have an answer,” he said.

Asked whether he knew Soledad’s fiancé, who is the son of his former Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo, Mr. Aquino said he knew Romulo’s siblings more and only met the latter “way, way after I met (his siblings).”

When asked whether Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup, whom he met just before he boarded his flight to the US last Sunday night, was the person who would fit his favorite song, Mr. Aquino merely mentioned what they talked about during their meeting at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

He said she told him about her busy schedule now that she was back home with new responsibilities and her desire to practice as an architect.

“That’s just what we talked about because we were both tired,” Mr. Aquino said.

But before the formal interview with reporters began, DWIZ broadcaster Rey Langit, who was celebrating his birthday, jokingly told the President that his birthday wish was for him to introduce to the media the person he would finally settle down with.

“Shamcey is busy,” the Chief Executive replied, drawing laughter from the reporters.
