Food offerings to elves, and other questions about elementals

A former student, who asked his name be kept confidential, submitted the following series of questions on various esoteric subjects:

1. “Wikipedia says medieval healers had fairies to protect them, sort of spirit guides like what Siberian and American Indian shamans have. What can you say about these matters?”

What I know and believe in is that healers usually have spirit guides or spirit controls that tell them what to do. Maybe medieval healers and writers call them fairies. But fairies belong to another category of spirits. “Familiars,” as the Bible calls them, are spirits of the dead, as far as I know.

2. “One makes food offerings to elementals (duwende, encantos) whom he may have injured. The effect is usually immediate healing of the ailment caused by these creatures. But what if these foods are offered when there’s no more reason to make such offerings because the elementals no longer makes the person suffer? Would this result in something like a covenant or contract inadvertently forged with these beings?”

I don’t think so. I don’t see the logic behind this belief.

3. “If one eats food offered to humans invited to the elemental kingdom, would it mean the human agrees to be bound by the rules of the elemental kingdom?”

What I heard old folks say is that if a human who is lured into their kingdom eats the food offered by the elementals, the human being cannot go back to his physical dimension. I have not heard of this happening to anybody, although there is a strong folk belief in it. I have no proof because I have not looked at the list of missing persons in the police records to verify this.

4.  “My father still cannot see because of cataract in his right eye caused by a barang. A visiting alternative medicine practitioner detected the cataract but not the duwende-induced blindness in his left eye. But the healer also said the duwende was no longer punishing him.”

My view here is this: Before we conclude that an ailment is caused by spirits or by sorcerers or elementals, we must first seek medical advice by a competent doctor of medicine. Only if he cannot explain a disease medically should you consult a faith healer or alternative healing practitioner. I believe each healing modality has its own value or contribution to make.

Right pinky finger

5. “My theory is that duwendes are still harming my father because his right pinky finger is still shorter that the left. This also happened to me before when I was a victim of a duwende’s anger. My right pinky became shorter but was restored to normal size after the faith healer said we would apologize and make food offering to them.”

I have been told that by some healers and psychics that the common test of the pinky fingers not having the same length is not a fool-proof sign that an elemental spirit is involved. Some healers have other means of checking this. So don’t believe in this test right away. It is better to consult a real clairvoyant who can see spirits of the dead and elementals.

6. “Do white duwendes also retaliate when hurt by humans?”

All types of duwendes whether white or black do, because they do not have the same emotions that humans have. To them, retaliation is only reflex action on their part. It is the same when you touch the flame of a candle you immediately pull back your finger. It’s an automatic reflex reaction without thinking about it. It’s a matter of a tooth-for-a-tooth for the elementals.

7. “What can you say about the book of Demetrio Sibal and Melancio Sabino. Some claim on the Internet blog site that Sabino’s work, ‘Lihim Na Karunungan ng Diyos,’ contains Latin prayers that are disguised to release evil spirits previously imprisoned by healers. Another source close to the rights holders of the book dismissed this allegation as a plain demolition job.”

First, I don’t know much about the book you mentioned, although I have a copy of it. The book is all about “oracion” (prayers). I cannot tell whether it is genuine, or not, or contains misleading prayers as some claim. The problem with the Internet is that anybody can write anything against a person or his work without offering any proof or evidence and people who read them tend to believe them without question. There is, for instance, somebody who wrote about me on the Internet that I am nothing but a charlatan out to get people’s money. I have no way of defending myself from such attacks. Don’t believe everything you read there. Use your sense of discretion and logic.
