Rarely do you see a fashion film that focuses more on emotions and less on its creative impact. But such is fashion designer Lesley Mobo’s preview video for his Red Charity Gala 2015 collection.
The Tudor Rose video has an eerie, yet grand appeal with the model walking alone in the woods and exploring an empty banquet hall with nothing heard but her own footsteps. Alongside this, we get to see quick snippets of the collection: layers upon layers of lace and intricately crafted sheer details. The show also has an elaborate running theme and inspiration: “an orgy of Tudor romance towards the culmination of the War of the Roses and Dynasty kitschy (sic) glamour via Studio 54,” the London-based designer says.
The pieces were well-incorporated in the 15-second film directed by Clyde Gabriel who was once mentored by fashion photographer Tim Walker known for his fairy tale-like executions of fashion. “The shoot was focused more on the clothes and feelings [rather] than creating an atmospheric feel,” says show director Ariel Lozada.
In a past conversation with him, Lesley shares, “I love contemporary art and I love incorporating touches of [the] bold and [the] contemporary.” We’ll get to see just that in his 40-piece gala collection, which will be shown next week.
