‘Prom’ advice from bishop

MANILA, Philippines—Prom nights are not about fancy dresses, first kisses and giving in to romantic musings.

An official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Friday reminded high school juniors that the prom is an occasion to build a healthy relationship with the opposite sex and an opportunity to earn the trust of their parents.

“My reminder is that this occasion is a chance to establish a relationship with the opposite sex. It is an initial meeting and encounter with the opposite sex so I hope these students would not see it as an occasion to give in to lustful thoughts,” said Nueva Ecija Bishop Roberto Mallari, vice chair of the CBCP Commission on Youth.
