Cosmopolitan Manille’s alta sociedad came out in full force to show their support for the third Child Protection Network (CPN) Benefit.
Some 300 civic-minded VIPs arrived at the classy ballroom of Raffles and Fairmont Makati, ready with their checkbooks and credit cards and pledges for the charity which, according to American business leader, Atlantic Monthly publisher and friend of the Philippines David Bradley, has treated at least 37,267 abused children since 2004.
Hosted by David as well as Fila and the Philippine Tatler, the event featured excellent dinner and superb wines, naturellement.
“There are 60 Child Protection Units in 39 provinces across the country,” said David. “A donation of P10,000 would cover the cost of one child at these units for the duration of a year, providing him medical treatment, help from social workers and legal counseling.”
David expressed how pleased he was “with the progress CPN has made toward realizing the goal of having 80 Child Protection Units in the country by end of 2014.”
David and his wife Katherine jetted in from Washington, DC, to attend this strictly invitational event. As the largest donors of the foundation from the start, David and Katherine maintain close ties to the country where David spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer decades ago.
Naturellement, the CPN board members came in full charitable force, dahlings: aside from David, there were Justice Ameurfina Herrera, Tatler publisher Irene Martel-Francisco, Renna Angeles, Tatler Travel editor Mia Borromeo, Karina Constantino David, William Go, British Ambassador Asif Ahmad, Elizabeth Melchor, Lizzy Razon, Mons Romulo, Jun Sy, Johnny Velasquez, Katrina Legarda and Bernadette Madrid.
Cris Albert of Fila and David Batchelor of Raffles received plaques of appreciation for “generously (sharing) their resources with the foundation.” Renna Angeles, Jun Sy and Joanna Preysler of Eterno were also cited “for their valuable support to CPN.”
Master illusionist Erik Mana entertained the guests. The awesome CPN Auction followed.
Up for bidding were donated packages. Raffles donated a two-night stay at the hotel. Jim and Missy Ayala gave away a gift check for three-nights/ four-days’ stay in a sea-view villa at Anvaya Cove. Rachel Tan sponsored a one-week stay at the Luna House in London. Amanpulo shouldered a weekend accommodation with airfare included for two persons in its fabulous resort in Pamalican Island.
For the highlight of the auction, palangga, David and Katherine gave a one-week stay at their gorgeous, sprawling country home at Valfond in Provence, France, no less. Wow!
As always, après the auction, the real action began as everyone took to the dance floor and swayed to the music of Highway 54. A fun, charitable, relevant happening, dahlings, from the Child Protection Network, natch!
