Childhood whimsy and innocent dreams are the focus of the group art exhibit, “Bedtime Stories,” which will open March 9 at the Atrium of Podium Mall, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
The works on exhibit—by Carlo Ongchangco, Francis Nacion, Roel Obemio and Migs Villanueva—is a tribute to childhood memories.
Villanueva, also a Palanca-winning writer, dreams up images that touch on notions of nostalgia and memory.
Obemio focuses on native mythologies and imagery which he depict with Botero-like experimentation with volume.
Nacion meanwhile raids folklore and native spirituality so as to populate his canvases with interesting characters: fairies and spirits, animal transformations, heroes and ordinary rural folk caught up in world of magic and mystery.
Ongchangco’s canvases illustrate western narratives—such as the Little Prince and Daddy Long Legs—and his fanciful take on figuration to bring these characters to life.
“Bedtime Stories” is organized by Galerie Stephanie, in cooperation with Galerie Francesca.
