Makeup must-haves from a lifestyle writer-turned-brand manager

Girls with charm like Shauna Popple can’t seem to get out of the lifestyle circuit. A former writer for Tatler magazine, she is now the brand manager for Brand Gateway, which handles Linda Farrow Vintage. I decided to feature her top 10 favorite beauty must-haves. We can all use a new tip or two from each other anyway.

1. Guerlain’s Issima Midnight Secret. What a miracle worker! Caffeine, alcohol, late-night shenanigans—why give these up when you have a contingency plan that smells so divine?

2. Tweezerman tweezers. I love to pluck. So much so that I need to practice restraint lest I end up with a perpetually “shocked” expression. Tweezerman is the best there is for precision plucking. By the way, the story behind Tweezerman founder, Dal LaMagna, is a must-read!

3. Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo. Ombre hair = combination hair. With ombre locks, there’s a tendency to get flat/oily roots at the top and super dry ends. I use this shampoo on my roots at least once a week to rid my strands of “blah hair” build-up.

4. L’Oreal’s Kerastase Elixir Kultime Oleo-Complexe oil. The ultimate treatment for dry and split ends. Plus, the coconut scent reminds me of a relaxing beach vacation. Need I say more?

5. MAC lipstick. I will never tire of being on the receiving end of a lippy gift from MAC. I love the Ruby Woo red, and a girl friend recently bought me the orangey Lady Danger for my birthday.

6. Becca crème lip and cheek stain. The perfect beach bunny tints for beachside stints, they stay put and natural-looking on your pout for hours on end. My fave hues are Watermelon and Raspberry.

7. Maybelline Super Film Magnum Volum’ Express mascara in black. “Are those real?” people ask me. “Maybe it’s Maybelline,” is my answer. I’m so corny, but I can’t resist.

8. Shu Uemura eyelash curler. The first time I used this baby on my lashes, I thought to myself, “Whoa! So this is what the world looks like!” It truly is the Bugatti of eyelash curlers.

9. Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. Squirt a few drops onto cotton pad. Gently swipe off difficult-to-remove eye makeup. Repeat if necessary.

10. Rimmel Kajal eyeliner in black. To switch things up a little, I like to define my eyes by applying black kajal liner to the inner lower rim. Not a look for everyone as this trick can make eyes look smaller, but I think it makes for an “exotic” look when applied the right way.
