When the signing of the historic peace agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front finally took centerstage Thursday— with no other national distraction (e.g. a show-biz celeb being beaten to a pulp after going into one condo unit)—the setting was as striking and impressive as the occasion. The physical setting, that is.

Set up at the Palace was a vast backdrop of white doves which, seen from a distance or in pictures, seemed like a wall of white with a blue background. A closer look gave one a glimpse of the mural of doves.

About a thousand doves were installed on the mural—actually, Styropor images of the peace symbol, with fabricated feathers. It must have taken the Palace staff great effort and time to do this painstaking task.
