It is never easy to put up a fashion show, what more if you have 70 student designers participating in this year’s “Design Surge,” the graduation
showcase of the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde’s Fashion and Merchandise (DLS-CSB FDM) program.
With a creative jamboree of artistry and design, the students presented their graduation collection to an audience consisting of their teachers, parents and friends.
There was much happening onstage as well as backstage; it was simply chaotic—they had to find a last-minute model moments before a segment because the dress wouldn’t fit, another model had to hold the skirt up to keep it from falling, and the wrong name flashed during a student designer’s segment.
Despite these glitches this year’s batch was just as promising. The show was divided into three categories—casual, trend and luxury wear. Each category had a variation of aesthetics, visions and individual style.
Jennifer Jean Dee, program coordinator and academic adviser, wrote to the graduating batch: “I have only one message that I wish you [students] can bring with you after you leave our school and that is to remember that you must pursue growth.”
“Design Surge” was held at the Le Pavilion events place on April 5. It was the 15th annual graduation showcase of DLS-CSB FDM.
