The Wanderland Music and Arts Festival 2014, presented by River Island and Globe, will be mounted by Karpos Multimedia on May 17 at the Globe Circuit Events grounds in Makati.

 

This year, more wonderful things await the audience. A slew of international and local bands are on the lineup.

 

The festival atmosphere will get more exciting with the presence of Wanderland monsters.

 

Adding thrills are the River Island Wanderwheel, the High Striker and carnival games such as Feed the Monster, Ring My Nose, Wanderball, Balloon Pop and Crazy Cans.

 

The Art Island will showcase Live Art by Anjo Bolarda, JP Cuison and Dee Jae Pa’este among other creative activities; there’s also the Food Island where an assortment of eats awaits revelers.

 

Band lineup

 

Headlining the music program is The Drums, a New York indie pop band composed of Jonny Pierce, Jacob Graham and Connor Hanwick.

 

Best known for its surf rock-inspired music, the band released its EP “Summertime” in 2009. The Drums quickly rose to fame, grabbing the No. 5 slot in the BBC Sound of 2010; No. 1 in New Musical Express’ (NME’s) Top Tips for the Year, and No. 1 in Clash Magazine’s Tips for 2010.

 

The band was also voted Best Hope for 2010 in Pitchfork Media’s 2009 Readers’ Poll. The band likewise took home the Hall Radar Award at the 2010 NME Awards.

 

It just wrapped up its third album, with fans eagerly awaiting the official release dates.

Also in the performers’ lineup is The Paper Kites, a five-member indie folk band from Melbourne. Known for its soothing melodies, the band recently achieved success with a sold-out headline tour of the United States and Canada.

 

The Paper Kites’ popularity is seen from its innovative music videos which have garnered over 10 million YouTube views so far.

 

Third in the lineup is The Royal Concept, a Swedish indie rock band whose endearing pop anthems have gained them an international following.

 

Its popularity grew rapidly via the huge hit track “D-D-Dance.”

 

This was followed by the second single, “Gimme Twice,” which was widely discussed in  blogs worldwide. It became the most added at track on radio for three weeks after its release.

 

Pinoy acts

 

Fourth on the bill is critically acclaimed Brisbane quartet Last Dinosaurs, whose debut album received praise and created a buzz in the international indie music scene.

 

Rounding up the roster of artists are British singer-songwriter Lucy Rose, known for her fragile-sounding vocals; Australian pop powerhouse Architecture in Helsinki; Aussie rising star Woody Pitney; and Filipino acts Franco, Techy Romantics, The Ransom Collective, Brisom and Chocolate Grass.

 

Tickets at P4,800 are being offered for an early-bird price of P3,000 on a limited two-week period.

 

A prefestival event, “River Island Takes You to Wanderland,” will be held today featuring the band Cheats, plus exciting freebies upon ticket purchase.

Early-bird tickets will also be available via SM Tickets and Ticketnet starting today until April 26.
