‘Last Supper’ artist’s works now at Riverbanks Center gallery

JOEY Velasco’s “Hapag ng Pag-asa”

The Riverbanks Center in Marikina is now home to the spiritually moving art pieces of the late painter Joey Velasco.

The artist was only 43 years old when he passed away because of a kidney disease.

Best known for his work “Hapag ng Pag-asa” or Table of Hope, which depicts the Last Supper with Jesus and street children instead of the disciples, Velasco stirred the hearts of many with his paintings.

Those who have seen them say the gallery is a “living museum” where art reflects the spiritual dimension of day-to-day living and sparks social awareness.

Queeny Velasco, wife of the late painter/writer, described it as a museum of “faith and patriotism.”

The Joey Velasco Foundation is supporting the gallery, along with Hapag child beneficiaries, their families and others in Hapag Village in Amparo, Caloocan City.

The foundation is crafting livelihood projects, training and other activities for the beneficiaries’ value formation.

The gallery is at 2/L E-com Building, Riverbanks Center, Marikina City. For more information, visit www.riverbankscenter.com or call 5700701 loc. 332 or 334.
