PRINCE Albert Rotisserie
G/L, InterContinental Hotel Manila, Ayala Avenue, Makati City; tel. 7937000
This restaurant was the place for fine dining when it opened decades ago. It has kept its reputation through the decades and still caters to those who want a truly exquisite roast, among others, and impeccable service.
Dining area: The place evokes the quiet elegance of traditional European restaurants. At the center is a marble table with three tall candelabras. The tables and chairs are arranged with ample space for movement, a good distance from each other that one doesn’t overhear the conversation at the next table.
There is a banquette where a more private meal can be had. There is a vase of fresh red roses on every table. There are two rooms for more intimate functions. Tables have white table cloths and chairs are upholstered in velvet fabric.
Service: Quiet and unobtrusive, but kitchen is fast and efficient.
Staff: Most of them have been serving there for years, thus they are familiar with frequent diners. The staff members are all formally garbed—the gentlemen in dark suits, the ladies in long outfits in gray and black with a bolero.
The menu is handed quickly and orders are taken immediately. Drinks are served upon order. They wipe off crumbs as the meal progresses.
Suggested orders: This diner does not go to Prince Albert and order anything other than its US Prime Roast Beef Rib, which is delightfully passed around in a silver covered cart. The slice is made as desired. But first we had a bread bun with two dips, one made with herbs and spices. The Caesar Salad with flavorful dressing is generous, and can be shared.
To deviate from the Roast Beef, our company had the Risotto with Mushrooms and Truffle Oil. But our Roast Beef was perfect with enough fat on the side, making it really succulent! Any house wine will complement the meal.
For dessert one can try the Five Spice Mousse with Orange and Mandarin sauce. This is a dome covered with chocolate. Brewed coffee can come last, a perfect punctuation to a very satisfying meal.
Service and government charges are added to the bill. Senior cards are honored.
