Among the many fashion blogs out there, one worthy of bookmarking is robbieoffduty.com. The blogger, Robbie Becroft, who’s also a model and graphic designer, has a keen eye for cool. He’s a wiz at pairing thrift-shop finds with designer pieces, while making the vintage look contemporary.
The 24-year-old Australian-Filipino’s highly addictive blog is full of fashion inspiration, savvy style advice, envy-inducing travel logs and gorgeous images.
“I’m on a journey. The blog is not solely about fashion, it’s about the things I come across day to day, my personal opinions on them, and what inspires me,” he says, adding that people who like his blog probably appreciate or share his tastes, or are going through the same phases in life.
Becroft has been hired by Neff Headwear, a label worn by the likes of Snoop Dogg and Deadmau5, to be its Manila-based brand manager.
If we had the opportunity to switch our boyfriend’s fashion DNA with someone else, Becroft would be on top of the list.
We spent a few precious minutes with him to learn more about his journey.
You’d be surprised to know that… I was not into photography until I started my blog. When I first came to the Philippines, I had no intention of starting a blog at all. I just liked the idea of documenting my whereabouts in the Philippines so my family could keep track of me. I bought a DSLR camera and slowly worked my way into photography in my spare time. I’ve never regretted it since!
Among the awesome things I was able to do because of blogging is… travel. I’ve always wanted to travel and experience new places. To be able to travel for work is what I would describe
as an ideal lifestyle.
My personal style is… urban street—sometimes preppy, sometimes rugged. Being surrounded by a diverse culture in Australia, I’ve grown to appreciate multiple styles, which was why I thought blogging was also a great avenue to experiment with.
The one fashion accessory I have the most of is… backpacks. I love collecting different styles and patterns of backpacks because they’re a necessity to my everyday routine. I really appreciate the many unique styles available in the Philippines. I’m able to work them into my outfit, mixing and matching different color tones.
When writing on my blog, I always… work with different locations and figure out the best way to tell a story with my photos.
My favorite photo subjects are… people and their emotions. I look for the right moment to capture a candid shot. Usually, at events, I have the opportunity to capture the vibe. I also consider myself lucky because a lot of important people I shoot are my friends.
Looking at my shots, I tell myself to… keep practicing and practicing and experimenting with different styles and lighting. Even now, I still get back to the basics and research just so I can fully understand photography.
I am most engrossed when I’m shooting outdoors because… it’s so much different compared to shooting in a studio. I admire the creativity of people in the studio, but when you go for a walk with a camera, you never know what can happen. Photography isn’t just about taking endless amounts of photos, it’s also about recording a series of events that you might want to share with other people.
My toiletry essentials are… my Joop Homme cologne (my one and only, hahaha), razors, Axe deodorant, Kiehl’s facial moisturizer, Dove body wash and, of course, my newly acquired products from Toni & Guy! I’d have to say that its hairstyling fiber lets me do anything I want with my hair for the day.
When grooming my hair, I use stuff like… styling wax, sometimes hair spray when I’d like my hair to show more of a sleek look. It’s no surprise the new Toni & Guy products I’ve been using have been very effective. They have just the right amount of hold, so it’s easier to get that smooth, combed-back look that I like.
I take fastidious care of my… face and skin. Since coming back from Australia, my face has broken out due to the climate change, dust and humidity. I have started using Flawless’ new iSkin New York facial-care package and it has done an immaculate job, helping minimize pores and preventing breakouts.
I never forget to… wash my face and brush my teeth—two important steps to looking and feeling fresh.
If you’re adjusting to climate change like Becroft, or just looking for a way to cure breakouts, look into his iSkin New York facial-care package by Flawless. Flawless is a skincare center that offers treatments as well as beauty solutions, with hygiene as its top priority.
