What keeps Anton del Rosario energized

American-born Filipino footballer Anton del Rosario has a heavy load on his shoulders. One of the star players of the Azkals Philippine national team, he and his teammates are facing their biggest tournament yet this month, when the Azkals play in the Challenge Cup scheduled May 19-30 in the Maldives.

Off the football pitch, Del Rosario moves to a much slower tempo, preferring to while away afternoons by playing board games with the family. He’s also devoted to the sustained development of local football.

But what gets him most excited these days is raising his son, Myles.

“I’m a lenient dad,” he says. “Of course there are certain things I must be strict on, such as manners, politeness, the general ways Myles should act. Luckily, Myles is amazing! He’s well-behaved most of the time, so I don’t need to worry too much about teaching him.”

My career goals on the horizon are… to win the challenge cup and advance to the AFC!

ANTON del Rosario

Three awesome things I was able to do because of football are… live the dream by doing what I love for work. I was able to get through college, and meet and play with great people all over the world.

The most extreme thing a football fan did for me is… upgrade me for a flight! It wasn’t extreme but it was possibly the best thing.

During the off-season, the first thing I do is… travel with the family.

A pastime I enjoy doing with the family is… playing board games. It reminds me of holidays in the past when we used to sit in front of the fire and listen to Christmas music, playing Risk, Monopoly, Scrabble, etc.

Fashion and grooming

I take great fashion inspiration from… Samantha Richell (Anton’s wife). She is my stylist. I believe I’m a rugged-chic type of guy when I’m not in my relaxing Nike gear. I’m the 7FAM, G-Star, Diesel type.

My secret to keeping fit is… playing football six days a week, going to the gym three to four times a week, and trying to eat right.

I go mad over… shoes and jeans. I love my kicks. My closet is full of Nike and Cole Haan kicks, they’re the most comfortable shoes ever. They’re stylish, too.

My essential grooming products are…  Pond’s Men Facial Wash Energy Charge, a Schick Quattro Razor, a Bench Fix wax stick, Phoenix Axe body wash, my toothbrush and Closeup White.

The products I’ve trusted for years are… Bench Wax stick, Axe body wash and the Schick Quattro razor.

When it comes to personal maintenance I’m… fussy. I like to be clean and well-groomed. This means maintaining my morning routine: brush my teeth, take a shower, wash my face, get dressed, then fix my hair.

My top scent is… Boss by Hugo Boss. I also picked up some oil scents from a shop in London called Arabian Oud. The scents are very potent but amazing.

Tips

Anton knows that when games are televised, his skin-care game plan has to be as good as his game play. Try Anton’s daily essential: Pond’s Men Energy Charge Facial Foam, with coffee bean extracts to brighten and energize skin. Massage a small amount over the face and neck, rinse carefully and pat dry.

Willing to go that extra mile? Try Hollywood’s Backstage secret for instant camera-ready skin: Glamglow’s Youthmud. Two things made it successful: 1) Hollywood luminaries love it; 2) It’s proven to be effective.

Glamglow Supermud is an advanced mud mask that is said to help fight all common skin concerns: pores, blemishes, pimples, spots, blackheads, whiteheads, razor bumps and even ingrown hair.

Glamglow is available at the Beauty Section in SM Makati, SM Megamall, SM Aura Premier; Fresh Fragrance Bar in Eastwood, Alabang Town Center, Century Mall and Glorietta 5; and Art of Scent in Shangri-La Plaza Mall and Resorts World Manila.
