Obemio to hold ‘Conversations’

“BIG Catch”
“Selfie.”

Roel Obemio is known for his voluminous figurations of storybook characters and, more recently, his appropriation of classic Old-World paintings in a style similar to Colombian painter Fernando Botero’s.

Obemio uses volume as a narrative device to convey whimsy and fantasy. His recent works have also started to incorporate geometric patterns, and his evolution has subsequently seen an increased amount of interest from the art community.

To educate the art public on Obemio’s style and philosophy, Galerie Francesca Megamall  will hold “Conversations with Roel Obemio” on May 29, 6 p.m.

“Ligawan”
“MIDNIGHT Coffee”

He will talk about his practice and answer questions about his works. Guests can also authenticate their Obemio works, as well as purchase limited-edition 12″x12” canvas paintings from the artist.

Obemio majored in painting at the University of the East. He won the grand prize from the 61st Art Association of the Philippines’ Annual Awards.
