Coming out next week: ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ book in Filipino

Fans of the book “The Fault in Our Stars” will soon be able to enjoy the journey of Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters in Filipino.

Translating the book seemed like the natural next step for publisher National Book Store.

Xandra Ramos, National Book Store purchasing director, said, “John Green has touched thousands of readers in the Philippines. His books are consistent bestsellers in National Book Store. We thought  ‘The Fault in our Stars’ was the best candidate for our first translated work. It would reach a bigger audience if published in Filipino.”

They found the perfect translator in award-winning writer Danton Remoto.

For Xandra, the choice was a personal one. “It had to be translated properly so I asked my former teacher in Ateneo, Danton Remoto, to do it. He has done justice to the work.”

Here’s a sample from the book’s back cover: “Maalam, matapang, mapaglaro at mahapdi, ang ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ ay ang pinaka-ambisyoso at makabasag-pusong libro ng premyadong awtor na si John Green. Mahusay nitong ginagalugad ang nakakatawa, nakakakilig at nakakalungkot na karanasan ng pagiging buhay at nagmamahal.”

We know one quote that will stay the same: the fan favorite “Okay?” “Okay.”

The book will be out in National Book Store branches next week. We couldn’t wait to read the whole thing. Pam Pastor
