Crabs for everyone

The Red Crab Alimango House Shangri-La Plaza branch

MANILA, Philippines–The interior does look different, but you didn’t get it wrong. This restaurant visible in the photo above is indeed a branch of The Red Crab Alimango House, the newest one at that, and it does have a number of “fresh” things to offer.

Ambience

For one, the re-designed image of the seafood haven helps heighten one’s sense of patriotism as every corner of the place resembles ancestral houses found in select historical cities in the country. Though the restaurant did not go as far as dressing their staff with the traditional Barong Tagalog and Barot Saya, the establishment still succeeds in combining the bygone and contemporary Filipino setup. While the interior keeps everyone reminded of our roots, the type of service available on the other hand showcases the 21st century Filipino hospitality which our race is well-known for.

Budget-friendly menu

According to Elaine Botabara, The Red Crab Alimango House’s General Manager, the Shangri-La Plaza branch in particular has made a number of significant changes in the menu and pricing. To match the taste of the crowd that they cater to, they have incorporated more Filipino dishes within the list of choices. The pricing was also adjusted in order to encourage more people to try and explore the roster of unique meals that they offer.

Interesting Taste

Crispy Baby Squid

For the hors d’oeuvre (first course), diners will be served with an appetizer combining the salty wonders of fried anchovies and the unique tang of fried squid adorned by a sweet and spicy sauce. Once you get started, you will find it a challenge to stop digging the sweet and spicy squid as the course is crunchy yet very chewy.

Crab Maritess

Later on, if you go for some of the store’s most popular dishes like the Crab Maritess (which you should really try to understand why The Red Crab Alimango House is a “household” name in the food chain industry), you will find it even more challenging to watch your diet. The large crab sautéed in olive oil, and showered with garlic if the customer prefers, absorbs diners in a sinkhole filled with the vibrant, soft, and delectable taste of the white meat.

Crispy Pata

You might also want to note that The Red Crab Alimango House also serves pork-based cuisines.

Raymund’s Salt and Pepper Crab

Business Development Manager Jason Malajacan says The Red Crab Alimango House is all about sharing. While meal prices might be on the high side for solo diners, it is the exact opposite for groups dining in at the seafood restaurant as along with the greenbacks they pay for the meals they consume, they experience the “Red Crab Alimango House” brand of feast which is centered on savouring sumptuous servings while getting to spend that much-wanted quality time with your loved-ones.

Suman sa Latik

In this country where marine life is abundant, seafood recipes are not really much of a unique experience for the people. But seafood recipes upheld with the Filipinos’ family-oriented nature, now that’s something each of us are somehow, subtly looking for.

Now just in case you’re looking into trying this distinctive “Red Crab” experience, you may head to the 6th level of the Shangri-La Plaza where the new branch is located.
