Batangas church celebrates anniversary of Lipa apparitions on Sept. 12

The Archdiocese of Lipa will celebrate the anniversary of the 1948 Lipa Apparitions on Sept. 12 with a National Day of Prayer. Theme is “Mary in the Laity Proclaiming the Gospel.” This will be the 11th year that the archdiocese is holding this National Day of Prayer which was supported by then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo with a presidential proclamation. Pilgrims are expected from Cebu and Davao.

Those in Luzon who need to stay overnight in Lipa can check in at Hotel Gregorio owned by the late Luz Mojares Dizon and Dr. Gregorio Dizon who were married by Lipa Auxiliary Bishop Alfredo Obviar on Dec. 4, 1948.

Schedule of activities on Sept. 12: 4-6 a.m.—Procession from Cathedral to Our Lady Mary Mediatrix of All Grace Parish on Antipolo del Norte district built by businessman Danny Dolor; 6-7 a.m., Eucharistic Celebration by Archbishop Ramon C. Arguelles; 8-9 a.m., choral singing by Our Lady Mary Mediatrix Parish Grand Choir; 9-11 a.m., talk by Fr. Shenan Boquet of Human Life International; 11 a.m.-12 nn, Eucharistic adoration by Apostolado ng Panalanging; 1-2 p.m., procession from Parish to Our Lady of Mt. SM Chapel on the Hill

Residents of Heneral Uno, a socialized housing community of SM and of Sitio Caimitohan in General Trias, Cavite lauded the construction of the Chapel of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal, which was dedicated and blessed by Imus Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista recently with donor, Felicidad T. Sy, as guest of honor.

The chapel will be under the supervision of the parish of San Vicente Ferrer of Mangahan under Fr. Ariel Lisama.

Heneral Uno is a socialized housing community of SM consisting of 2,365 houses. So far, 907 have been constructed and sold, 50 of them fully occupied. The donation of the chapel to serve the spiritual needs of those living in the community manifests the religious advocacy of the matriarch of the Sys, Felicidad T. Sy.

Among the special guests during the occasion were Mayor Antonio Ferrer of Gen. Trias and Rep. Luis Ferrer IV, Fr. Bernie Gasilo of Trece Martirez and members of the Municipal Board of Gen. Trias. Also present were members of the SM family headed by Josemarie Banzon, AVP of SMDC; Lynn O. Sy, president of Summerhill Dev. Corp.; Cecille Badiola also of Summerhill; Glen Ang of SM Supermalls; Rose Siaco of SMIC and Mel Elido of SMFI.

Sto. Niño Capitan Heneral

The Sto. Niño Capitan Heneral will be enthroned on Sept. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Basilica of San Sebastian by Fr. Lauro Larlar, OAR, provincial of the Philippine Augustinian Recoletos.

The newly vested image is by Arnold Reyes. The image had been in San Sebastian since 1891 at the left side of the main altar (now occupied by San Nicolas de Tolentino).

The replacement was done in the 1940s. The Sto. Niño Capitan Heneral, meanwhile, was placed in a wooden “urna” positioned at the foot of the now, San Nicolas altar.

The image remained in San Sebastian until the 1980s, when Fr. Silloriquez, OAR, handed over the image to the Museo Rekoleto for safe keeping. The present parish priest of San Sebastian is Fr. James Bumangabang, OAR.

‘Dangal ng Pasig’ award

In appreciation for his talent and artistry as a fashion designer, fashion icon Oskar Peralta was given the “Dangal ng Pasig Plaque of Recognition” and medal made by the Igorots of the Mountain Province by Mayor Maria Belen Andaya-Eusebio on Aug. 19.

Peralta was the first Filipino designer whose exquisite creations were featured in a Vogue hard-bound book i 1979 edition.

Peralta was also asked by the Makati City government to coordinate the Makati “Kasuotang Pilipino” fashion show set for Sept. 18, 6 p.m., at the Glorietta 2 Activity Center, in cooperation with Ayala Center, Filipino Heritage Festivals, Inc., Liga ng mga Barangay headed by Councilor Arlene Ortega and Senior Citizens Office headed by Cipriano Guarin.

As in the past, the fashion show focus on Filipino attires of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and shall feature the creations of Makati-based couturiers Albert Andrada, Ronaldo Arnaldo, Pablo Cabahug, Luis de los Santos and Kaye Morales. Project assistant is Terence Tolosig. Fashion director is Oskar Atendido.

Show will also honor Dean of Philippine Fashion and Makati resident Ben Farrales whose creations will be featured as the finale number.
