Entries to Miclat art prize to be accepted Sept. 4

The Maningning Miclat Art Foundation, Inc. (MMAFI) will accept entries to the 2014 Maningning Art Competition on Sept. 4, gallery hours, at the Art Circle Gallery, 4/L, Shangri-La Plaza, Edsa and Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong.

 

China-born Maningning Miclat for which the foundation and the prize were named, was a prize-winning visual artist, published  poet of three languages, essayist, and translator/interpreter.

 

This year’s art contest is an open-themed  competition for painters age 28 below. Entries may be done in oil, watercolor, pen and ink, acrylic brush and ink, or mixed media in Western or Oriental style. Three dimensional works are allowed, provided the final product is wall-bound. Entries must be framed. The minimum size is 45 cm x  60 cm, and the maximum size is  90 cm x 120 cm or equivalent area, without the frame.

 

First-prize winner will be awarded a Julie Lluch sculpture trophy and P28,000. The second- and third-prize winners will receive P15,000 and P10,000.00, respectively, plus certificates of merit. A Special Gallery Prize will be awarded by Art Circle Gallery. All winners will receive MMAFI books, including a special hardbound  edition of  Fairground: A Literary Feast jointly published by the Maningning Foundation and Erehwon Center for the Arts.

 

The 2014 book will be launched during the Art Awards on Sept. 12 at  the Art Plaza, Shangri-La Plaza, is an anthology of poems, essays, monologues and stories by 40 of the best poets and writers in the country, including the National Artists F. Sionil Jose and Virgilio S. Almario.

“Fairground: A Literary Feast” is edited by Gémino H. Abad and Alma Cruz Miclat. Book cover is an artwork by artist Migs Villanueva. Maningning Miclat’s artworks divide the sections of the book.
