The 76th Oktoberfest will be held on Oct. 17 and 18 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza’s Manila Harbor Garden Tent.
Worldwide, it will be the 181st year of the beer festival, which originated in Bavaria, Germany.
The original Hofbräuhaus will perform. The band came from the legendary Hofbräuhaus in Munich, founded by the Duke of Bavaria in 1589.
Also to perform for the first time in the Philippines is Lissie, internationally acclaimed female yodeler.
Musicians will play on cow-bells. The traditional Bavarian folk dance, Schuhplattler, will be performed.
Also to be played are the gigantic Alps Horn and Goaßlschnalzer. Men will crack their whips in tune to Bavarian music.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of Philippine-German diplomatic relations. The Oktoberfest will also celebrate the recent victory of Germany as World Cup champion.
Sofitel Philippine Plaza chefs will prepare a sumptuous Bavarian spread, from roasted pork knuckles to roasted calf, laugen rolls, grilled German sausages and pastries. They will be paired with ice-cold San Miguel Beer.
The Harbor Garden Tent will be converted into an authentic Biergärten or beer garden with Oktoberfest tables and benches. Women will wear dirndl and the men Lederhosen to make Oktoberfest more authentic.
Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila will offer special Oktoberfest room packages.
There will be a raffle draw with over P5 million worth of prizes. Proceeds will go to the German Club’s welfare projects.
