The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will announce the winning curator for the Philippine pavilion in the 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale 2015 today (Sunday) at noon.

A panel of jurors tasked to select from 16 applicants had been deliberating since late Thursday, said NCCA Chair Felipe de Leon Jr.

The jurors include De Leon, Sen. Loren Legarda, art critic Cid Reyes; Mami Kataoka, chief curator of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo; New York-based sculptor Paul Pfeiffer; and Renaud Proch, executive director of the Independent Curators International, a nonprofit organization in New York that produces exhibitions, events and publications.

It will be the first time the Philippines will participate anew in the biennale after Jose Joya and Napoleon Abueva represented the country in 1964.

Jurors said it is important that the curator be able to select artworks that would accurately project the cultural context of Philippine works.

De Leon said foreign jurors were invited to provide the Philippine delegation an up-to-date perspective on global movements in art.
