In the book “The Noetic Universe” by Dean Radin, senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, the author quoted the following famous passage from a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge:
What if you slept
And what if
In your sleep
You dreamed
And what if
In your dream
You went to heaven
And there plucked a strange and beautiful flower
And what if
When you awoke
You had that flower in your hand
Ah, what then?
This passage is regarded as beautiful poetry, not fact. For how can something merely dreamed of appear in physical reality?
Materialization
But I do not consider this to be mere fantasy. It illustrates the phenomenon of materialization. We can define materialization as the power or ability to make something appear out of nowhere.
Materialization is not really something new nor impossible, although it is ordinarily regarded as such.
Perhaps the first recorded case of materialization is found in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. On at least two occasions, Jesus Christ was reported to have fed up to 5,000 people with only a few pieces of bread and fish.
And after they had all eaten and had their fill, there were still a few pieces of fish and bread left in the basket.
It may be argued that Christ was able to do that because he is God. He could do miracles.
But I have seen and also heard of ordinary men who never claimed they were gods, but were able to materialize or make things appear out of nowhere.
Sathya Sai Baba
The most famous of these was the Indian spiritual guru named Sathya Sai Baba of Bangalore, India. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world saw him make things appear in his hand from nowhere.
Among the things he materialized were drumloads of holy ashes his devotees call vibhuti, gold and diamond rings, statues of Hindu gods, and so many other things.
He has been observed and studied by scientists in the Western world and has never been proven to be fraudulent.
Demonstrated in public
But Sai Baba did not solely possess this ability to materialize things. The Sri Lankan guru Swami Premananda, whom I met in Manila in the early ’80s, could do the same thing. I have actually seen such materialization he demonstrated in public.
Another person who has been reported to be able to materialize things is the world-famous Israeli psychic, Uri Geller, whom I met in Dusseldorf, Germany, in 1994.
In a book about Uri, the scientist from SRI, Dr. Andrija Puharich, related that when he was with Uri in Israel, he told Uri that he should have brought the leather bag of his camera which he had left in his New York apartment, to protect his camera from dust. Uri said nothing about this.
When they returned at night, Dr. Puharich was shocked to find his leather camera bag on top of the bed inside his hotel room. He knew it was the leather bag he left in New York because it had Dr. Puharich’s initials on it.
Filipino spiritual healers
I have also witnessed several Filipino spiritual healers and psychic surgeons materialize various things from out of the bodies of patients, especially witchcraft victims. I have seen strands of hair, strips of plastic and even a dead cockroach pulled out of the stomachs of patients by these healers.
Are these mere trickery or illusion? Perhaps some are, but not all. These products of witchcraft or black magic are always ordered burned by the healers so that they won’t harm other people.
Out of their bodies
But I still have one last story which parallels what Coleridge described in his poem. Many years ago, when I was just beginning my investigations into psychic and paranormal phenomena, a man in Parañaque related to me this incredible incident.
This man had two daughters who could leave their bodies at will. And while they are out of their bodies, their father would talk to them and tell them what to do.
One day, while his daughter was out of her body, her father asked where she was. The daughter replied she was on a farm of papaya trees. She said one tree already had a ripened fruit.
The father asked her to bite the fruit. When he recalled her astral body to enter her physical body, she had a piece of papaya in her mouth!
