For most of us, no matter how many times we read about it or see others do it, getting the perfect makeup application is impossible.
As a beauty editor years ago, I may have learned and discovered the good stuff out there, but I can still be quite the klutz when it comes to applying makeup, especially since I’m always in a hurry and tend to put my makeup on in the car. Luckily, there are those who give makeup lessons, some individual, others group, who will literally hold our hands through the application process.
Eyebrow tutorials by Agoo Bengzon
A former beauty editor, Bengzon thought of holding private eyebrow tutorials after noting how people would always ask her for beauty and makeup tips in her social media accounts.
The 30-minute session is simple: Bengzon studies the shape of your brows, whether or not they need more reshaping or filling, then teaches the proper eyebrow makeup application techniques.
In my case, Bengzon said my brows were too sparse at the ends so they needed filling.
For the session, I decided to show her some of the eyebrow makeup I was using. Among several items in my personal stash, she gave top votes to K-Palette’s 1Day Tattoo Real Lasting Eye Brow Liner and The Face Shop’s Design My Eyebrow Pencil.
She also divulged another favorite, L’Oreal’s Super Liner Brow Liner.
One thing I learned from Bengzon is one must spare some time solely for eyebrow makeup. Instead of tilting the pencil in an upward or slanted direction (which I tend to do in a hurry),
she told me to go the opposite way and try to “mimic” eyebrow hair. In the session, Bengzon worked on one brow and let me do the other.
After the session, I came home with thicker-looking brows and a 5-Minute Touch Up Kit from Nippon Esthetic Solutions.

Cbeauty at Home by Cristina Madara
A certified image consultant and makeup artist, Cristina Madara gives private sessions that range from simple makeup consultation and application to more thorough color analysis, event makeup and wardrobe analysis, depending on each client’s needs.
Madara usually conducts what she terms an “Initial Needs Meeting” to give a complete assessment of one’s personal and professional needs.
Apart from offering packages for corporate and executive clients for professional grooming, makeup and such, popular among Madara’s offerings are group-specific lessons for “girlfriends.”
Often done in the privacy of one’s home, Madara conducts lessons and gives product recommendations for a minimum of five individuals. Participants are asked to choose three topics among Madara’s suggestions to make each session a more personal and fun experience.
Topics can range from tools and basics to more complex techniques such as smoky eyes, evening makeup, HD makeup or the most interesting one, The Scott Barnes Method Highlight and Contouring, which Madara learned in a course with the makeup artist himself in Los Angeles.
